Barbican outclass Pelicans 2-0 in JNBS Masters league

Mark Miller scored two brilliant goals in each half to spearhead Barbican's classy 2-0 win over Pelicans at Barbican Oval last Saturday in the 2010 JNBS masters football league.

Miller, on loan from JDF masters, broke open a close cat-and-mouse tactical game in the 37th minute when he turned and fired home a powerful angled shot to give Barbican a 1-0 lead at the half.

Despite the introduction of former Reggae Boy Fabian Davis, and former Jamaican international Andrew 'Bowa' Hines, Barbican controlled the midfield area and the game, as Pelicans had very little answers for the experience of Miller or the pace and flamboyance of Denton Shedden.

In the 75th minute, Miller sealed the issue for the league champions when he unleashed a wicked left foot shot that rocketed into the top of the Pelicans' net for a well deserved 2-0 Barbican win.

In the curtain raiser, Telecom Strikers and Maxfield played to a 1-1 draw.

Former Jamaican international, Michael Tulloch, scored an hat-trick in the lone game at Bell Chung Oval to give Washington Strikers an easy 4-1 win over Kush. Tulloch netted in the 18th, 34th, and 71st minutes, while Fitzroy Brown added another for the winners in the 15th minute. Karl Marchall snatched a consolation goal for Kush in the 57th minute.

The league continues on Sunday with six double-headers. In the JNBS game of the day, Zone B-runaway leader Constant Spring, tackle Park Rovers at Constant Spring Oval at 4:30 p.m. after Harbour View meets Kush in a Zone A encounter.

Barbican faces another tough game at home when they clash with the ever improving Nautica in the 4:30 p.m. feature game. In the Barbican Oval opener, it's Shortwood versus Eastern as Shortwood search for their first point of the season having lost all six games.

After back-to-back 2-0 losses, the highly fancied Pelicans meet Boys Town at Buttercup Park at 3:00 pm, and are set to unveil former Jamaican international Wolde Harris in an effort to increase their fire power up front. Harris had an outstanding MLS career with Colorado Rapids and New England Revolutions. Real Mona welcomes Packers in the Buttercup Park feature game at 4:30 p.m.
