Western Bureau:

It was excitement galore at Jarrett Park, in Montego Bay, this past Saturday as the curtains came down on the 2009-10 St James Football Association (STJFA) domestic football season with the playing of all four finals in the inaugural Wisynco-sponsored WATA and BIGGA Youth Football Competition.

At the end of the day, which featured a lavish presentation ceremony, the individual champions were Granville City, which won the WATA Under-13; Club Stars, which won the WATA Under-15 and the BIGGA Under-17; and Revelation FC, the BIGGA Under-20 champions.

"It was quite a successful day and we must congratulate all four champions and say a big thank you to the sponsors as well," said David Watt, the interim president of the STJFA. "It was really a wonderful day of exciting football."

In the Under-13 final, which opened the day's activities at 10 a.m., the exciting Granville City turned in a smart performance in scoring a good 4-2 win over Youth In Action. Deshaun Beckford (two), Romero Williams and skipper Tavear McNeil got the goals for Granville City. Howard Mair and Jason Christie scored for Youth In Action.

In the Under-15 final, which featured a showdown between Club Stars and Seba, it was a ding-dong affair as the teams, playing in the pouring rain, battled to a 2-2 regulation and extra-time score-line. In the deciding penalty shoot-out, Club Stars prevailed, coming away with a 4-3 win.

"We really wanted this title and we were always confident we would win," said Club Stars' captain Junior Morgan. "It was a really good game."

Like their Under-15 unit, the Club Stars Under-17 also had to go the penalty shoot-out route to secure victory against Rosemount Gardens. At the end of regulation and extra-time, the teams were locked at 1-1 but Club Stars proved better at penalties, notching a 5-4 win.

In the Under-20, Revelation FC shocked, if not embarrassed West Green, spanking them 4-0. Orlando Gilpin emerged the undisputed star for Revelation, scoring a hat-trick. Substitute Jason Gray got the other goal.

In the presentation ceremony, the four champion teams were presented with their trophies and individual gold medals for team members. The members of the losing teams were given individual silver medals. All participants to include players, referees and the media were given gift packages courtesy of Claro, the main sponsors of St James football.
