No bail for man with many names

It has been 30 years since Dwayne Sheldon Phillips was born and still he has not been registered.

Phillips was in court yesterday and revealed that he uses many names because he was not formally registered at birth.

Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser then asked Phillips why he did not attempt to register himself since he reached adulthood.

Phillips replied that he was told that he will be unable to register himself now because he is unable to read.

Phillips was charged with forgery of passport, forgery, uttering forged documents, obtaining forged documents, and conspiracy to deceive.

Allegations are that on September 2, Phillips went to the TRN office downtown to correct his date of birth.

Checks at the TRN office later revealed that there were some irregularities with Phillips' application.

The fraud squad was later alerted and Phillips interviewed by them.

During the interview, Phillips gave his mother's name as Yvonne Parchment, however, the birth certificate he presented in the name Dwayne Mullings had his mother's name as Millicent Granston.

He was asked to explain and gave no comment.

Phillips' mother was later contacted and gave his name as Carl Phillip.

His sister was then contacted and gave his name as Paul Austin.

The true identity of the accused is yet to be ascertained.
