THE EDITOR, Sir:
Jamaica is a country of contrast. We have the best people in the world, and we also have some of the worst people. The latter group constitute a small minority.
This very small group act as a deterrent to the efforts of the rest, and consequently put us in a bad light.
Today, I want to focus on the ones who, through their magnanimity of spirit, and their philanthropic contribution are helping to hold up this country. I call them the pillars of Jamaica.
Digicel
Time and space will not permit me to mention them all, but you will pardon me for singling out a few. One of our strongest pillars is Digicel which stands out in so many ways. It was heart-warming to see the many projects that they are engaged in, on the TV, and I know this is but a fraction of their benevolent deeds. We say 'thanks' and continue to keep up the good work. We love you.
Father Holung and his Missionaries of the Poor, stand out as a beacon of hope in the inner city. Only God can adequately reward these people for their selfless contribution to humanity. God bless you all.
Food for the poor
Food for the Poor, also stands out. It would be impossible to cover its many areas of activity, which spread throughout the length and breadth of this country. We would like FFP to know how highly we appreciate the good work it is doing.
Thanks to the Government for honouring these groups and many others.
It is said that a chain is as strong as its weakest link, so we all have to pray that God will strengthen our weak links, so that Jamaica will once more be regarded as the pearl of the Caribbean.
I am etc.,
